 School Milk Coordinator

As a School Milk Coordinator you are in a unique position to influence and improve upon student’s nutrition habits. By administrating the School Milk Program you can make it fun and easy for students to get their recommended daily servings of milk as outlined in Canada’s Food Guide. *Kids who are well nourished – like those who get their recommended daily servings of milk – have increased test scores, improved attendance, reduced tardiness and better academic, behavioral and emotional functioning. The School Milk Foundation appreciates the amount of time and effort that School Milk Coordinators put into our program. You are helping to ensure that children are able to get nutritious milk at school by supporting the School Milk Foundation of Newfoundland and Labrador in your school!

What is the School Milk Foundation of Newfoundland and Labrador?

The School Milk Foundation of Newfoundland and Labrador Inc. is an independent non-profit organization, which assists with the availability and affordability of milk for students. The School Milk Foundation subsidizes the price of milk in schools on our Program throughout the province so that milk is more accessible to students. The School Milk Foundation also offers free in-class nutrition education presentations to Kindergarten to Grade 6 students on the Program. We also offer a self-contained Healthy Eating Active Living Toolkit , which can be used by teachers and health professionals in Grade 7 to 12 classes.

We operate the School Milk Program in over 250 schools in Newfoundland and Labrador, reaching approximately 95% of this province’s Kindergarten to Grade 12 population.

What is the School Milk Program?

The School Milk Program has two components. The first is the subsidization of milk in schools on our Program throughout the province.  Student prices are set at 55¢ for a 250mL milk and $1.10 for a 500mL milk. The second part of our program consists of various educational and incentive based campaigns, which encourage students to meet the recommended number of servings from the Milk and Alternatives Food Group as outlined in Canada’s Food Guide. The School Milk Program makes it fun and rewarding for students to drink milk! Students have many chances throughout the year to win great prizes like soccer balls, t-shirts, skipping ropes, pencils, stickers and of course free milk!!

Here’s how the program works…

This program is for students only. Between 4-6 promotions take place each year. The number and type of promotions a school receives depend on its grade levels; Kindergarten to Grade 6, Grades 7 to 12 or mixed grades.

All students can participate.  A letter to the School Milk Coordinator will be sent out with each promotion. This letter outlines the timing of the promotion and how the promotion should be run.

Each School Milk Promotion will come with posters. Please display the posters in an area where students will be sure to see them. You can also make announcements over your school’s PA system. Have fun with the School Milk Program!

In each promotion package there is a milk reimbursement form. Once the promotion has been completed please fill in the number of free milk coupons that have been redeemed by students in order to receive your reimbursement. Please remember to fill in only the number of coupons which are redeemed by students so that the reimbursement process is as simple and quick as possible.

The School Milk Foundation appreciates the time and effort it takes to administer the School Milk Program. As a token of our appreciation, this year we will continue with our Sears Gift Card Draw. In May look for our entry cards to be mailed to you. Fill out and return your entry cards for a chance to win a $500 Sears Gift Card!

Important Reminder!

To build and maintain student interest and enthusiasm in the program throughout the year – please remember to distribute prizes and free milk to students only for drinking milk! These promotions are paid for by the School Milk Foundation and to ensure continued success, it is important to run the promotions according to the guidelines that are included in each promotion kit. The School Milk Foundation has made every effort to make our promotions as streamlined as possible for School Milk Coordinators. If you have any questions about running the School Milk Program in your school, please feel free to contact the School Milk Foundation directly at (709) 364-2776.
