The HEAL Toolkit is a resource that teachers and other school health professionals can borrow for use in their Grade 7 to 12 classes. The HEAL toolkit uses an interactive PowerPoint presentation to deliver valuable educational messages about the importance of healthy eating and active living as part of a healthy lifestyle. It relays key messages such as portion control, serving sizes, mindless eating, food labeling, and consequences of poor eating and inactivity as well as the importance of milk as part of a healthy lifestyle. The Healthy Eating Active Living Toolkit includes a CD containing a 30-minute interactive PowerPoint Presentation, a comprehensive user manual, a number of life-like portion controlled food models, a 3-D bone health model, student activity sheets, laminated true/false flash cards, two teen-targeted DVDs (‘Supersize Me – Educationally Enhanced’ and ‘Reality Matters – Obesity and Nutrition’), some suggested group activities and posters. These Toolkits have been distributed to the Eastern, Central Nova, Western and Labrador School Districts.
